Journal #2 Jazz Technique III Class #1

Well, I must admit this is a little backwards as I mentioned before in my first journal entry, but I wanted to write down all that I remembered and felt in my first official jazz dance class starting on the second day. But in order to get in my full number of journals for each week, I need to back up and reflect back to my immediate feelings about my first initial class!
As, I recall arriving to class that first Tuesday evening, I was full of excitement! I couldn't wait to start class! I quickly went into the locker room and changed into my jazz dance attire. And, I rushed off to the class! I found out only a few minutes later, that it was not meeting in the main studio, but the secondary one. And, I was a little frustrated to find out that there was a class meeting before mine in that studio (in both studios for that matter), so I would not be able to stretch and warm up inside! So, as is often the frustration on this campus for most "serious" dancers (I must infer) one must wait and or just stretch and practice somewhere in the halls! Ah, the fun!
So, that is what I did! I practiced a few moves across the hall, as I eagerly awaited the class before mine to get out! Then, (at last) it was time to go into the studio! I was a little surprised at first to find only a few dancers there! Unlike my ballet class, which is quite large (a group of all levels of dance) this one was made up of at most 10-12 (Which, later even in that first class, shrunck to smaller than that!)
As, our instructor made her way into the class from her other dance class, she informed us that we would not be dancing that day, but rather going over the logistics and administrative stuff for the first class. Alas, I was a little disappointed, but not entirely surprised! It was the first day, and I was just a little too eager to step out onto that floor!
Yet, after filling out a health form, establishing role, etc. We started to get into the details of what we would be covering over the semester as we went through the syllabus. Although, I mentioned I was a bit disappointed with initially finding out that we would not be dancing that day, I must say that my appetite was rather whetted as we began to discuss the agenda for the class!
It was not to be a "traditional" jazz class, that meaning one that followed the regular form of jazz. But rather, it would be one that used a variety of techniques that were collaborated into one class (a little scatter-brained sounding to me)! Yet, none the less, I got the idea it would certainly be quite the adventure, and likely well worth it!
And so it has turned out to be thus far and adventure! Certainly, it has not been easy; but, what easy thing is worthwhile? Merely, with time and practice, patience and perseverance, one achieves their goal of learning and bettering themselves in the art of education.
Upon this point, I end my prologue to the class.
