Well,
as I sitting here Thursday afternoon following my ballet class, I must say that I'm a little encouraged and a bit more energetic! I had the day off yesterday from work and I don't usually work Thursday mornings, so coming into ballet today, I felt more refreshed and ready to dance! As I result, I felt like the class went fairly well, and I sense that I'm making improvements there!
As far as Jazz is concerned, it continues to be a work in progress. As ballet, there are certainly elements that I do think I am improving in; although, I would also say that I have quite a ways to go in some areas! Part of it is my desire (as my ballet instructor reminded me today after class) to dance at a level that I'm not at yet! What I mean by this is, at times my impatience in coping with where I am at, and working on truly improving the fundamentals, rather than quickly running over them (struggling through them) and striving to put out at a level that I can't physically handle! I still struggle with over extending my leg beyond what I can handle! I fear sometimes I have a tendency to partially enger myself in the process of trying to over develop my technique before I have mastered it and a smaller level! I continue to need to grow in patience as well as perseverence in my form in order to improve!
On Tuesday's class, we work on my ab stretches, which really helped warm up my muscles and relax before beginning to dance! Then, we did slightly different across the floor movements! Again, though simple phrazes I think I might have rushed through them a bit! I really need to be conscious of slowly down my steps and really stretching out each phrase in the music! I can still do some larger strides, but I also need to grow in control, so that I can start out small and draw it out more! I find when I extend to my max, I have a tendency to lose control (balance, etc) and I can't really "breathe" through the steps! Enough on that.
So, we also started our second part of the choriography for our final performance! This time, we worked on a song by Britany Spears! It's a really sexy sort of song, which has a good beat to it, a little more on the side of hip hop, using those contractions of the body! It's fun though!
Anyway, that's about all I have to say for now on that!
Slow steady movements produce a strong confident performance,
